I remember Mom saying at mealtimes, “Life doesn’t get any better than this.” We would often push back, “No, I think it will be better when I have a new bike, or when dad comes home from up North, or when I finish school, or … on and on.” Mom would look at us over the food and say, “No, This, right now, is as good as it gets.
